US Congress

MIP&L will visit Congress May 4th, 2011

Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light is working in partnership with the Massachusetts Council of Churches to collect letters to our US Senators urging them to take leadership in moving our state and country to a clean energy economy, and curtailing greenhouse gas pollution.

Delegates from MA IP&L will be visiting our Senators and some Congressmen in Washington DC on May 4, 2011 in conjunction with the national IP&L Annual Meeting and lobby day.  We are conducting our Congressional meetings together with representatives of the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Network, EarthJustice and several other non-profits.

Please either print, sign and mail the letter found here, or better yet, write your own personalized letter and mail it to us at: MIP&L, 197 Herrick Rd., Suite 22, Newton Centre MA 02459 by April 28, 2011We'll bring them with us and personally deliver them to Congress on May 4th!

We'll also be collecting letters at our MIP&L annual meeting on May 1, 2011 at the Boston Synagogue.

[Your name and address]

Dear Senator __________,

Thank you for your past support of incentives for clean energy innovation and a transition to a low carbon economy.  As people of faith, we act out of love for creation, a magnificent gift for which we have an abiding responsibility. We urge you now to take leadership on the following actions that will preserve God's creation and grow jobs in Massachusetts:

In 1962 Rachel Carson wrote that "We are accustomed to look for the gross and immediate effect and to ignore all else. Unless this appears promptly and in such obvious form that it cannot be ignored, we deny the existence of hazard." She wrote about the dangers of pesticide. Today we can no longer ignore the effects that over-reliance on fossil fuels is having on the health of our children, on our economic health, and most importantly to the neediest among us and to the health of God's good earth that sustains us all.

Thank you.

Yours truly
